Pembury PFI Hospital

The £225 million Pembury PFI Hospital covers 65,000 sq/m and is the first major new hospital unique within the country as the only entirely single bedded major general hospital. Developed to fit within the rural setting each of the 512 individual rooms accommodates en-suite facilities and incorporates features for patient safety and effective infection control.

Construction of the new hospital began in April 2008 on the existing site of Pembury in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

The two phase build will be fully operational by Autumn 2011 and accommodates existing services from surrounding areas including Women and Children’s facilities and a fully admitting A&E department.

Driven by patient safety and infection control BHC Furniture, in conjunction with the furniture manufacturer, Senator worked closely with both the Trust PFI Team and Interior designer to deliver an environmental, patient safe and aesthetic solution for both patients and visitors to the Hospital.

BHC Furniture commenced work in December 2010 installing desks, seating and pedestals throughout 300 acres over six floors utilising vehicles with minimal environmental impact suitable for site access followed by furniture required for sub waiting areas, restaurant and the open aspect main atrium.

Both the main Atrium and Restaurant incorporates stylish seating meeting the brief to create an impression of an ultra modern business or top end hotel. Further into the departmental waiting areas consideration for patient and visitor comfort continues and meets with expectations for durability and cleaning standards required by the Trust.
